GALESBURG, Ill. (AP) -- Galesburg officials say they're disappointed Caterpillar has ruled out Illinois for a relocated factory and 1,400 jobs.
The west-central Illinois community was among a handful of Illinois locations that had made a pitch to the Peoria-based equipment maker for the relocated factory from Japan.
Galesburg Mayor Salvador Garza says he knew the pitch was a longshot, but they tried to make it competitive. Their unsolicited bid included city property that could be bought at a competitive price and sales tax abatements.
On Sunday, Garza even took out an advertisement in the (Peoria) Journal Star touting Galesburg.
He received a call from Caterpillar officials Tuesday and then an email. It cited both logistical problems and ongoing concerns about Illinois' business climate.
Galesburg is about 45 miles from Peoria.

I imagine some other State was willing to provide a lot more perks to get Cat. Let's not forget how Governor Quinn created this unrest for business. I cannot blame Cat. We can be lucky Cat is still in Illinois at all.
Way to go Quinn!! Thanks for losing more jobs.
