While the pool of problem loans seems to be slowing down locally. Now a growing number of borrowers with good credit and money in their pockets are having trouble getting approved. 23 News Economic Reporter Kristin Burke shows us how the credit crunch is hurting even the best of borrowers .
"Our credit scores are in the 800s, we have money in the bank we own nothing but our mortgage, we have no bills."
Janice Becker sounds like the perfect candidate to get approved. She has tried two times in the last 6 months to get her home loan refinanced, and both times has come up empty handed. The reason she has been told... Becker's Winnebago home is worth about one hundred thousand dollars more than the average home in the neighborhood.
"There are more houses that have been built that are equal to mine and more expensive than mine but they haven't sold yet and they have to have houses that have sold."
A growing number of buyers and properties like Becker's' are caught in the middle of the tight credit situation. And loans for those with good credit are no longer a sure thing.
"If we talk to 50 people we probably get one person approved."
Most loans are sent back two or three times before they are accepted according to Osborn as lenders and banks are demanding more information on just about everything.
"When they verify employment they want written verifications and then they have to re-verify before the borrower closes again."
But this reality still doesn't sit well with Becker. She is frustrated knowing she is getting penalized when she did everything right.
I have kind of given up. We might even think of selling ,course you can't get your house for anything then either."
