Rockford Energy Grant
Saving jobs and energy is what the city of Rockford intends to do with a $1.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy. Although the city only had eight weeks to decide what to do with the money, administrators believe they have developed a solid plan.

There's an emphasis on renewable energy. The city will construct small wind turbines along Main street and in two downtown parking lots to power lights.
The money will also pay for a feasibility study which could lead to a wind farm on the city's northwest side. Rockford leaders will also look into obtaining a hydro power permit for the Fordham dam.
Rockford's green team leader Brian Eber says this money will open doors for the city.
"This has really helped us at a meaningful time where we have budget constraints to help us follow through with some real long term solutions to our energy needs and demands here." says Eber.
The city will use some of the grant money to conduct a wind turbine blade manufacturing site analysis. If successful, it is anticipated that this would generate 200 jobs.
