It seems like every few months another business is announcing a ground breaking or expansion in Rochelle. In this year alone the city is expecting about six new large businesses to set up shop. Rochelle mayor Chet Olson couldn't be happier.
"Well obviously they mean jobs, not only for Rochelle, but for the region. They're very instrumental in putting people to work during construction as well as the final product and permanent jobs after construction." says Olson.
He says the city's unique location has much to do with it's success. The Hub City has dual rail access, two major interstates, and it's part of the Northern Illinois Technology Triangle which gives it's businesses access to high speed Internet fiber optic cables. But location isn't everything.
"We put together what's called Team Rochelle and that's made up of our elected officials, our city council members, the city manager staff, the greater Rochelle Economic Development Corporation. It brings a whole bunch of people that says 'We can get it done,' and in Rochelle, I think look at the evidence, We're getting it done." says Anderson.
"All communities fit into two categories: ones that want you to be there and ones that don't want you to be there. Rochelle is a great example of a community that not only welcomes the jobs and the investment, they are there supporting you." says Executive VP of Tippmann Group Steve Tippmann, who is assisting in the construction of Sara Lee's new distribution center.
The businesses support the community through the taxes they pay. It is a collaboration the leaders of Rochelle are happy to be a part of.
Mayor Olson says he expects his city to grow anywhere from ten to fifteen thousand people over the next five years. This would more than double the city's current population of 9700.
Team Rochelle began its drive to bring business to the Hub City about five years ago. Mayor Olson says in the last three years the fruits of their labors have grown exponentially.
