Anyone with an old antenna, you will need to get a new digital antenna also. Hooking up the converterbox will not make your antenna digital it will only make your tv.

I bought and hooked up the converter box, it gets a few channels, however, when the local news comes on the signal stops and it says "restricted" on my tv. No local news when this switches over?? The other programs show fine - just not the local news. What is going on?

My mother has a small tv in her kitchen with rabbit ears. I hooked up the digital converter box correctly but when scanning for channels, it doesn't find any. Do I need to get her an antenna that says it is for digital signals?

I called the station this morning and talked to a very nice gentleman about not getting any channels once I did the scanning process. I do not have an outside antenna and I live in an apartment building on the ground floor which is partially underground. My window faces West and though I have pointed my antenna North/NorthEast toward your station I still have no luck. Maybe my rabbit ears aren't strong enough? What type of indoor antenna would you recommend in my case? Thank you very much for any help you could give.

I'd like to know how people that are on a low income barely making ends meet as it is,trying to keep up with food, rent & utilities, will be able to afford the digital box or a new tv,when they are just surviving, If a tornado or anything bad was to happen, they won't know anything about it...they wouldn't be able to hear the news,I personally feel this is so unfair to people who can't afford cable, less knowing this digital box, Are they saposed to figure out which they should do without, like food,medicine,utilities,rent...in order to listen to or watch the local news ? Making everyone get these things to be able to watch the local news, somewhere, something would have to be let go, or they'll fall through the cracks...not knowing danger might lay ahead...What's going to happen to them that cannot afford this ? Even people who have lost their jobs & have no money to even keep up house payments each month,I feel this is the wrong time to do this, with the Economy the way it is...

Will all the TV shows fill the TV screen or will some have the black space between the pitcher?

Joan, The government mandated the digital TV switch so they can auction off the remaining bandwidth a television station uses to companies such as cell phone companies. To make this easier to understand, a digital signal takes up much less "space" than the current analog signal. You will still have the choice of paying for satellite or cable services or receiving free, over the air televison. Order your digital converter box coupon today at www.dtv2009.gov. With this coupon and a one time investment of around $10 you'll enjoy a beautiful picture, better sound and more channels.

I can't help but wounder what the purpose (reasion) gov. is forceing digital, what's wrong with what we have now and having the choice to decide weather we what to pay the money for cable satilite. Or simply get the local chanels that we can get without paying for them. to my understanding the gov. has mandated this action. would simply like to know why? for what purpose? know people that simply like watching the news or local chanels and not paying all the expences. By doing what they are doing they don't have the choice from what is said, WHY?

Frances, I don’t know what you mean by a “digital connection” on the back of your TV. The connections for digital are the same as analog. What you should be concerned about is whether your TV has a digital tuner or not. You should go to the main menu of your TV and perform a channel search. See if your set searched for digital channels. That should tell you right away if your TV has a digital tuner.

I would think you’d get your coupons real soon. I ordered mine in January and received them a few weeks ago. There is another employee at the station that ordered hers in the beginning of February and she just received hers last weekend (April 5th).
