Winnebago is statebound after a super-sectional victory

DEKALB, Ill. (WIFR) Winnebago advanced to the state semifinals with a 58-55 win over Corliss in the 2A NIU Super-Sectional Tuesday night.

Senior Andrew Morrissey won the battle of the bigs with 23 points. Trojans senior George Conditt finished with nine.

"I knew coming into the game it'd be a big challenge," said Morrissey. "It's one I wanted to show people, hey, he's going D1 too and I can take him. I think I showed that tonight."

It will be the fifth appearance at state for head coach Joe Murphy.

"We just had to come out to work," said senior Ty Waller. "They went on a big run on us there in the first half. At the end of the first half we brought it down to only four points. We knew we had to bring the intensity. They got comfortable. It's just crazy. We just had to work as hard as we could."

The Indians will play Pinckneyville Friday at the Carver Arena in Peoria.
