PEORIA, Ill. (WIFR) -- Tuesday's victory in the Super-Sectional punched Winnebago's ticket to the final four. But now, that they're at the state tournament, the Indians won't settle for anything less than a first place trophy.
Led by seniors Andrew Morrissey, Kenzel Jones and Ty Waller, the Indians held off Pinckneyville 67-63 to advance to Saturday night's Class 2A state championship.
"We got to keep feeding Andrew, 6'9" height advantage," said Waller. "You know, he's playing that good we can't just dismiss that, so keep feeding him the ball."
The North Alabama recruit Morrissey was a one-man wrecking crew. The senior poured in 29 points and pulled down a Class 2A state tournament record 16 rebounds in a single game.
"It's insane. Like I said before the press conference, it's so unreal," said Morrissey. "When we step on the floor tomorrow, it's going to be a great feeling. We're just going to go out there, work hard, and hopefully get the 'W'."
