Stateline swimmers compete at state meet

EVANSTON, Ill. (WIFR) -- The fastest swimmers and the best divers in the state, meet today for the IHSA state championships. A few area athletes on hand for the big swim as well.

Byron's Caleb Carlson had a big day in the pool at Evanston. The senior garnered automatic All-American status in the 100-yard backstroke with his time of 49.01, good for second place in the event. Carlson also took a home fourth in the 50-yard freestyle and is in consideration for another All-American honor.

Rockford Christian's Cameron Poole swims in the athletes with disabilities category. The freshman didn't let that slow him down. Poole set a state record in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 37.20. He also took second in both the 100 and 200-yard freestyle.

Belvidere Co-op's Jacob Hedberg entered the state finals as the Jefferson sectional champion. The senior didn't disappoint this weekend either. Hedberg earned All-State honors with his fifth place finish.
