ROCKTON, Ill. (WIFR) He's a state champion, undefeated as a junior, a two time gold medalist at the Junior Pan-Am Games and now Hononegah senior Tony Cassioppi is accepting a new challenge in his wrestling career.
Cassioppi made his college choice official Tuesday signing on with one of the most prestigious programs in the country with Iowa.
The senior de-committed from Northwestern this past summer around the same time winning the U.S. Greco Roman Junior National Championship.
Cassioppi is coming off of a 48-0 junior year and now looks forward to doing it all over again.
"It was really great to have my friends and family here to support me," said Cassioppi. "It's a big step in my life and I can't wait to get to Iowa next year. I'm up for the challenge and I'm willing to go up there and work my hardest 24/7 and be the best that I can be."
He says he will red-shirt his freshman year with the Hawkeyes before becoming their varsity heavyweight.
