Smolinski, A's avoid arbitration with 1-year deal

Boylan grad Jake Smolinksi signed a one-year deal with Oakland, avoiding arbitration.

The outfielder spent most of the season on the DL after undergoing right shoulder surgery.

He managed to play in 16 games and connected on seven hits in 27 at-bats.

According to MLB.com, Smolinski's contract is worth $775,000.

In 2016, Smolinski hit .238 with seven home runs and 27 RBIs in 99 games.
