BELVIDERE, Ill. (WIFR) They may not have the numbers or notoriety of some of the bigger soccer clubs in the Stateline, but Shadow Premier FC out of Belvidere sure does have the talent to match-up with anybody in the country.
After falling short in the title game a year ago, the U14 boys squad took home the Presidents Cup last week at Sportscore Two.
Led by head coach Eno Obot, the group is mostly made up of kids from the Belvidere and Rockford area.
Obot started the club a decade ago with all of the coaches volunteering their time for the players.
Next up for the team is regionals in Ohio and they feel good about representing the Stateline.
"I think our goal was to get kids in the neighborhood that wanted to play for the most part, kids that really couldn't afford to play for the big clubs but were still athletes that would want to work hard and compete at a high level," said Obot.
"We just feel honored and just really happy to be at this point," said Genoa-Kingston freshman Eagan Reams.
"It means a lot because were all the way up there and nobody else really is and it's just crazy," said Sycamore freshman Julio Milan.
The tournament will run June 14-18 in West Chester.
If they win, they will advance to the U.S. Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup in July in Westfield, Indiana.
