Rockford Speedway celebrates 70 years of racing

Machesney Park, Ill. (WIFR) For 70 years, the Rockford Speedway has been a staple in Rockford and best known for it's entertainment and of course, racing. In the years since the 1940's, it's become one of the most popular short-tracks in the country.

Hundreds of fans came out to the tracks Saturday to help celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Rockford Speedway, which has brought in countless drivers and hosted generations of racing families.

"To think that some of these people can remember way back and they come out to see what's been going on today, we love them all," said Jody Deery, owner of the Rockford Speedway.

One of those families beling the Deerys themselves, who run the auto-racing business, and are a living example of how the Speedway has truly become a family affair in the Stateline.

"There are people that have been around a long time, and have come and supported us over these years," Deery said. "Now a lot of the adults were kids when they started coming out here, and it's good to see generation after generation coming, because we do like to say that we are family entertainment."
