ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Rock Valley will play in the national tournament for the sixth time in years thanks to its 92-53 victory over the Cougars.
It didn't take long for Rock Valley to seize control of its District 2 championship game against Columbus State Community College. The Golden Eagles jumped out to an 8-0 lead and never looked back.
Freshman Madi Hecox and sophomore Madison Vicencio each poured in 22 points to lead all scorers.
"We kind of matured as the year progressed and we kind of figured out each other," said freshman Madi Hecox. "So finally, to be where we are now, working as a team, I think it's amazing. We did it as a team and we're going to finish as a team."
The Golden Eagles will have the advantage heading into the tournament on March 15. Rock Valley will host the national championship for the first time.
"We've been working really, really hard to host the event," said head coach Misty Opat. "Now to be able to have the opportunity to have our team in it for the first time ever that we've hosted it,and the opportunity to bring home a national championship right here at our home court, just would be amazing."
