ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) Rock Valley women's basketball has enjoyed a successful run over the last six seasons with four national championships and this week kicked off their campaign for back-to-back titles.
After an 0-2 start, the Golden Eagles picked up their first win Tuesday night at The Nest in convincing fashion.
Just as she always does, head coach Misty Opat reloaded the roster with local talent bringing in East's Madi Hecox, Boylan's Jessie Schiro and Pecatonica's Abby Ponder just to name a few.
While it has taken the freshmen some time to mesh, expectations remain the same.
"Obviously when we recruit, we always set the expectation that we're shooting for a national championship, but this is probably one of our most talented classes collectively," said Opat. "We've had a superstar every class, but this group could be really special as a team. It's all going to depend on them continuing to buy in and developing and hopefully we're playing here in March for that national championship."
