Manning honored for 45 years of coaching in Rockford

Rockford, Ill. (WIFR) From football, to baseball and basketball, one area coach has done it all. For 45 years, Eddie Manning has impacted thousands of lives in his community of Rockford.

Manning has been a coaching at St. Elizabeth and Booker Washington Centers since 1971 and spent the better part of his life giving back to the community. Friday he was honored by his family and friends, and former athletes to celebrate all his years of service.

Manning stresses the importance of keeping young athletes off the streets by being involved in sports and said there's no secret to success, just simply one rule he lives by.

"Hard work, hard work, hard work, nothing in life comes easy, so hard work is the key, hard work and education," Manning said. "'I'm still involved with the kids in the community."

"If there is a problem, as I said before, they'll give me a call and I'll sit with them in school. I've done that in the past, and it's not a problem for me. I'm retired and I need things to do."
