Lutheran football coach Bazsali resigns

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Rockford Lutheran announced that head football coach Bruce Bazsali has resigned after seven seasons in charge.

In a statement, Bazsali said, "It has been an awesome seven years. I thank you for your support and for all of the people that made my time there (including five previous years as principal at Rockford Lutheran Academy) a wonderful experience. God bless you all."

In seven seasons, Bazsali led the Crusaders to a 61-27 record with five playoff appearances.

In 2013, Lutheran experienced one of its best seasons in school history going 11-2 and losing in the 4A State Semifinals.

Lutheran Athletic Director Dirk Campbell stated, "The effort, energy and passion that Bruce Bazsali gave to turn the Rockford Lutheran football program around is simply extraordinary. He has developed a culture in this program of hard work, commitment, loyalty and determination that translated into a run of great success on the field. I will always have a deep appreciation for his accomplishments as well as his friendship. I personally wish him nothing but the best and Bruce Bazsali will always be a Crusader! "
