Freeport's Wichman steps down as head coach

Freeport, Ill. (WIFR) Freeport is looking for a new leader for it's football team after Aaron Wichman announces he's stepping down from the helm.

Wichman led the pretzels to a 3-6 record last year and an 18-45 mark in seven seasons leading Freeport football. The pretzels had four straight winning seasons ending in 2004, but have not had a winning season since.

Freeport's enrollment of 11,089 students is the smallest in the conference and about 900 less than the largest NIC-10 schools Harlem and Hononegah. Athletic Director Jeff Fitzpatrick said he hopes to post the opening this week.
