FORRESTON, Ill. (WIFR) The only thing that could get much sweeter than a state championship is coming right back and doing it all over again the next year.
The reigning state champs Forreston aim to do just that as the majority of their starting lineup makes their return.
With a flawless 14-0 record last year, the Cardinals were held in check just once as they edged out Lena-Winslow by six, but no other game was decided by single digits.
In Champaign, Forreston took care of St. Teresa 35-7.
Having experienced a trip to state before, seniors like Gavin Fuchs say they know they have the ability to handle pressure especially with the target on their backs growing exponentially.
"Running in with that experience, we've got a lot of kids coming back," said Fuchs. "I know we've got a good team in our conference and we just keep playing week to week and we don't overlook anybody. Everyone's got a shot if they've got the will to win. Going in to each game, we know the other teams playing us have nothing to lose so they're going to give us their best shot, and that's what we look forward to every game."
