Woman launches 'Thrifty Thursdays' at 100 Strong House

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- From bikes and toys, to clothes and shoes, a local woman is making sure families in need have access to these items, all for free.

Shaneka Smith is starting Thrifty Thursdays at the 100 Strong House on Auburn Street. She says she's collecting a variety of items for newborns all the way up to middle schoolers. Once a month she's inviting needy families to come to the Safe House to browse the items and take a few that they need for their children.

"This is something that I want to do to give back to the community because I know my kids have a lot of friends that don't have certain items and things like that and I've always wanted to give back and I'm a giving person with a big heart so I thought why not take up a lot of donations from the community and give them back to the youth," says Smith.

She says right now she's in huge need of diapers, bottles, pacifiers and clothes. She says anyone who needs more information about Thrifty Thursdays can visit the 100 Strong Thrifty Thursdays Facebook page or stop by the Strong House at 4111 Auburn Street.
