ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Winnebago County continues to feel the brunt of a tough flu season.

The Winnebago County Health Department confirmed 855 total cases of Influenza A, Influenza B and the two types combined from Jan. 28 to Feb. 3. That brings the seasonal total of cases to 3,452 in the Rockford and surrounding area.

The 61108 zip code was hit the hardest with 404 cases, followed by 61107 at 353 and 61109 at 322.

Statistics are gathered by the health department using numbers from hospitals, physicians, clinics, long-term care facilities and laboratories.

Experts recommend using the three C's to prevent the spread of the flu: Clean your hands, cover your cough or sneeze and contain your germs - stay home if you are sick.
