WWII veteran celebrates 100th birthday

ROCHELLE (WIFR) -- It's been a long and probably very funny life for a Rochelle man who's done it all, while cracking jokes, and on Sunday, he turned the big 100.

Jules “Luke” Cote celebrated hitting the century mark with a St. Patrick's themed party at the Rochelle VFW. Luke is an army veteran serving in World War II from 1941 to 1946. Before that he had a pretty unusual job. He worked for the circus taking care of six lions.

Luke is a jokester, saying he won't give away his secret to a long life, but we finally got him to give up a little bit of it.
"I ran like hell. I fought like hell and I had the Lord always protecting me and here I am," he said.

Luke says he feels like he could live another 100 years.
