Volunteers work to keep city warm

FREEPORT, Ill. (WIFR) -- One local group is doing their part to make sure everyone stays warm this winter.

They call it "chasing the chill".

Volunteers are collecting gloves, hats, and scarves, and hanging them throughout Rockford and Freeport.

Anyone who needs one of the items is welcome to take them. Each item has a message attached to it, along with information about the organization. All of these items are handmade and donated by local groups.

"Just to be able to help, you know, I guess to teach the girls that it's more than just collecting things. That maybe we might have to do more things. So go out and be part of the community," says Girl Scout Troop Leader Barb Lutz.

In Freeport today, Chase the Chill volunteers distributed over 900 hundred clothing items.
