UPDATE: Vacant house fires considered arson

UPDATE: ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - Rockford Fire Investigator Tim Morris says both the fires in the 2200 block of Wentworth Avenue and 523 Union Street are being investigated as arson.

Morris says he does not believe the fires are connected.

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- A vacant house on Rockford's southeast side caught fire just before 5 this morning. When crews arrived to the scene in the 2200 block of Wentworth Avenue the house was fully engulfed. Firefighters controlled the blaze within ten minutes.

No nearby properties were damaged. The fire caused nearly $60,000 in damages to the vacant home, which is now a total loss. No details yet on what caused the fire.
