UPDATE: Destroyed home was slated for demolition, considered arson

UPDATE: ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - Rockford Fire Investigator Tim Morris says both the fires in the 2200 block of Wentworth Avenue and 523 Union Street are being investigated as arson.

Morris says he does not believe the fires are connected.

Morris says the house, which is near Kishwaukee Elementary, was slated for demolition by RPS 205.

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- A vacant house is now a total loss after catching fire early Saturday morning in the 500 block of Union Street.

The Rockford Fire Department say they responded to the blaze around 6 Saturday morning, quickly bringing the fire under control. They say there is no damage to adjoining homes.

Officials say there were no injuries from the fire.

The cause is still under investigation.
