Two tornadoes confirmed near Freeport

FREEPORT, Ill. (WIFR) -- The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities confirms two tornadoes touched down in Stephenson County Wednesday night.

NWS says the first tornado, an EF1 touched down about five miles west of Freeport and was on the ground for about two miles. The tornado had maximum winds of 90 mph. Surveyors says a second tornado, an EF0, touched down about 4.5 miles northwest of Freeport, and was on the ground for about 2.5 miles. That tornado had maximum winds of 75 mph.

Downed trees, damaged corn fields, and damage to a nearby home were reported following the tornadoes. 23 News spoke to neighbors near the path of the tornadoes who say they are working together to clean up the damage left behind.

No injuries were reported from either tornado.
