ROSCOE, Ill. (WIFR) – Charges are being filed against a 14-year-old student after a shooting threat was made at Roscoe Middle School.

According to the Kinnikinnick School District, the Roscoe Police Department has investigated the threat and found it not to be credible.

The District says the threat was made online and was shared between students before being brought to the attention of a school social worker. The Roscoe Police Department was called immediately and investigated the threat. Police say the threat was determined to be made through an internal computer system by a 14-year-old student.

The Winnebago State’s Attorney’s Office was notified of the investigation and authorized charges for felony disorderly conduct. The suspected student was then taken to the Winnebago County Justice Center. Due to the suspect's age, their name and photograph cannot be released.

Staff and parents were notified about the situation and the District says police presence will continue at all campuses.
