ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - The Rockford Public Library officially opens its temporary location as it awaits a brand new main library.
The new Hart Interim Library is officially open on N. Church Street. The downtown branch on Wyman Street closed its doors so ComEd can clean up toxic soil there. As that construction gets underway, it gives the library time to meet with the community to discuss ways to improve the new main library once it opens up in about four years.
For now, the interim library promises many services are still available to visitors such as the local history room and the story room.
"We were very careful to take the things that were well used in the old main library I guess as we start to call it now and to bring them here to have those sources here," said Rockford Public Library Executive Director Lynn Stainbrook.
There's no exact date for the demolition of the main library on Wyman, Stainbrook says it could happen any day now.
