ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - Swedes introduces the Olympis Radial Probe Endobronchial Ultrasound or EBUS, that can be used instead of conventional biopsies for lung cancer patients.
The hospital says the 360-degree image gives doctors a real-time look at the airway wall which could lead to a quicker diagnosis.
"Go as briefly as possible deep into the lungs and also confirm we are actually within the target to do the biopsy. So instead of me using an X-ray machine to guide whether I am in the right spot or not I actually know exactly where I am. so it's GPS technology within the lungs essentially," says Pulmonologist Dr. Tabassum Nafsi.
Doctors also use a super-dimension navigation system that can go into hard to reach areas of the lungs that traditional technology cannot.
