ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- The 2017 Academy Expo welcomes thousands of students in hopes of making their future career goals a reality.

Organizers welcome more than 100 different Rockford businesses and more than 2,000 RPS 205 freshmen to the Mercyhealth Indoor Sports Center Sportscore II.

Rockford Fire, Winnebago County Sheriff's Office and the Discovery Center were a few of the booths on hand. Students met with businesses of interest in hopes of planting the seed for their future careers.

"What better way to create that pipeline to help build our Rockford community than to showcase all of the great things that we have here for the Rockford community," says Executive Director of Alignment Rockford Anisha Grimmett.

The Academy Expo was launched in 2012 to help RPS students decide on a potential career path before they graduate.
