Stateline victims of July flooding can now apply for assistance

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- The hundreds of families and business owners affected by July’s flooding can now apply for help in the recovery process.

Applications begin today for people to receive low interest long term loans at the SBA Disaster Loan Outreach Center inside Highland Community College. The loan assistance is open to people in Stephenson, Winnebago, Carroll, Jo Daviess, and Ogle counties. In Stephenson County alone, it’s estimated that more than 100 homes and six businesses received flood damage.

“We had to look at other avenues and support for the community. So, this was the next step that we were able to turn around and secure for everybody. It just doesn’t affect Stephenson County, but all adjacent counties. So, we’re still working on processes and recovery options for it, and it’s still recovery mode that we’ll be in for a couple months yet,” said Robert Baker, Director of Stephenson County.

This SBA office will be open for applications until next Wednesday at the Freeport office. You can apply at https://disasterloan.sba.gov/ela or by calling 800-659-2955.
