Sisters prepare for President's farewell address

CHICAGO (WIFR) – It’s a bittersweet goodbye for Rockford’s Beth Ferguson who waited more than four hours in a frigid line to score a ticket to President Obama’s farewell address in Chicago.

*NOTE: Live video of the address is at the bottom of this article.

Ferguson and her sisters are attending the event in their father’s honor. Greg died of health complication in 2008, just eight days before the then junior senator was sworn in as president, a moment Ferguson says he predicted from the Senate Floor.

Ferguson calls herself a “proud daddy’s girl.” She and her sisters are wearing their father’s ashes around their neck, taking his memory inside McCormick Place.

Ferguson says while she’s sad to see her father’s idol leave office, she’s looking forward to his final speech as the junior senator who became our president.

President Obama is expected to begin his farewell speech at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday.
