DEKALB, Ill. (WIFR) - Nearly ten years after a deadly shooting on the Northern Illinois University campus, memorials are underway to remember the five students killed.

NIU spokesman Joe King says since the shooting in Cole Hall on Feb. 14, 2008, more than 1,800 people have donated to the Forward, Together, Forward Scholarship Endowment. The $745,000 has been given out to 50 NIU students to honor the five shot and killed.

"Every year as we give those awards out, the families of those we lost are invited back to campus to see the legacy of their son or daughter and really the hopes for the future by the amazing students that receive that Scholarship," said NIU Dean of Students Dr. Kelly Wesener-Nukker.

Throughout this week, there will be several memorials for the victims, survivors and first responders leading up to a wreath-laying ceremony on Wednesday at the exact moment when shots rang out ten years ago.
