UPDATE: ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - One department reigns supreme in the battle of the badges.

After a week of donations, the Rockford Fire Department avoids getting dunked in the Battle of the Badges competition in partnership with the Rock River Valley Blood Center.

As for the losers, Rockford police Assistant Deputy Chief Andre Brass took a plunge in the dunk tank.

The blood center says the friendly competition has helped fill its shelves this summer.

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - In an effort to raise awareness for blood donations and help the Rock River Valley Blood Center keep up the blood supply, Rockford police and fire are going head-to-head.

The "Battle of the Badges" challenge runs through Thursday at the RRVBC locations at 419 S. Sixth Street and 3065 N. Perryville Road. Donors can choose which department they would like their donations to go to Monday to Thursday at those blood centers.

On Friday, donors can still cast a vote at the "Battle of the Badges" Blood Drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the south parking lot of the city of Rockford Wellness Center at the corner of E. State and N. Third streets. The event will feature 95.3 The Bull with Steve Summers and food from La Guanajuato.

A member of the losing department will face the dunk tank at Friday's event.

Donors who vote for a department will receive a special edition t-shirt donated by the police and fire unions along with the RRVBC and a coupon for a free pint of custard from Culver's.
