Rockford man arrested for drug offenses, animal cruelty to puppies

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – A Rockford man is arrested on drug charges and for animal cruelty after investigators say they saw the man selling drugs and beating two puppies in the back seat of his car.

24-year-old Denzel Anderson is charged with unlawful delivery of less than one gram of heroin within 1,000 feet of a church, possession with intent to deliver cocaine 1-15 grams within 1,000 feet of a school, cruelty to animals, and resisting arrest.

According to the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, deputies with the Narcotics Unit were conducting an investigation in the 3100 block of 11th Street when they spotted Anderson. When the deputies tried to arrest Anderson, he allegedly fled on foot. Anderson was arrested after a short foot chase and struggle.

Deputies say they recovered seven grams of crack cocaine, .4 grams of heroin, and nearly $1,500 in cash. Winnebago County Animal Services took the puppies.
