ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - Rockford police say a 24-year-old man is behind bars after he allegedly ran from police during a traffic stop with a stolen gun.

Officers say just after 9:20 a.m. Thursday they tried to pull a vehicle over at the intersection of Rockford Avenue and Charles Street. When the officer approached the SUV, he noticed a gun in the center console.

The officer says he tried to get the driver, who was later identified as Dylan Brown, out of the SUV but Brown drove away.

Investigators say Brown was later found at a home in the 2600 block of Colorado Avenue. The gun was also found and was determined to be stolen.

Brown is charged with armed habitual criminal, unlawful use of a weapon by a street gang member, possession of a stolen firearm, aggravated fleeing to elude police and two counts of obstructing justice.

Brown is considered innocent until proven guilty.
