Rockford man arrested after allegedly breaking into an apartment and standoff

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - A Rockford man is arrested after police say he broke into an apartment and barricaded himself inside.

Rockford police say they were called around 3:45 a.m. Friday in the 900 block of Grant Avenue for a report of a man with a gun who broke into the apartment.

Investigators learned that 28-year-old Torey Adams, who is related to the people living in the apartment, had barricaded himself in the attic. After the apartment's occupants were safely removed, the Rockford Police Department S.W.A.T. and hostage negotiation teams were called to the scene.

Adams surrendered to police around 9:30 a.m. Investigators did not find a gun when they searched the apartment.

Adams is charged with felony trespass to a residence. He also had three outstanding warrants for possession of controlled substance, disorderly conduct and fleeing to elude. He is considered innocent until proven guilty.
