Rockford hospital donates gifts to local foster children

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - Hundreds of local foster children will now have a brighter Christmas thanks to generous donations from OSF Healthcare employees.

More than 200 Christmas gifts were collected for the Winnebago and Boone County Foster Alliance's Adopt-an-Angel program.

Employees choose from hundreds of tags that include a child's name, gender and age to then pick an appropriate gift.

Organizers say this generosity from the community comes at a critical time in the children's lives.

"It's especially important for the kids that we serve because our kids are separated from their biological families, so Christmas can be a really difficult time for them because they are experiencing that loss. This just really helps brighten their day," says Adopt-an-Angel coordinator Patty York.

The Adopt-an-Angel program expects to distribute more than 2,000 gifts to local foster children this holiday season.
