ROCKFORD,Ill. (WIFR) -- One Rockford couple may not have been at the concert in Las Vegas that night, but they were only a half a block away at the time of the shooting. They recount their experience as they return to the Rockford Chicago International Airport on the first flight back since Sunday.
Jim and Gracie Kasputis arrived in Las Vegas on Sunday afternoon. They were staying at the MGM right across the street the night of the shooting, and while they did not attend the concert that night they say they very well could have.
"No, I didn't know about the concert because believe me I might have been there," says Rockford native Gracie Kasputis.
Kasputis loves country music and says she very well could have been one of the victims that night. Gracie and her husband were attending a gaming show. They say the atmosphere in Las Vegas was different after the shooting, with heightened security and an overall somber mood.
"We were very depressed and sad and did a lot of praying and thinking about the families of the people that were there, and to think we could have been there. I could have been there. I mean I love Jason Aldean. I go to all the country concerts and it was just heartbreaking, just heartbreaking," says Kasputis.
The Rockford couple visits Las Vegas frequently. They say they won't let this tragedy prevent them from going back.
RFD’s first flight back from Las Vegas since the shooting arrived at 12:33pm today. The couple says they do plan to visit Las Vegas again in February.
