ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- For the past 15 years, Rockford students have been teaming up with volunteers to improve their grades in school.

The Rockford Reads program is now looking for new volunteers for the second semester that starts in January. Volunteers will partner with Rockford School District students as reading buddies.
For just one hour a week, volunteers meet with their students to read books together. The program is designed to take students who are not reading at their current grade level and help them get caught up with the extra attention.
Volunteers are able to select the school and the day of the week they volunteer. The teacher will select the students and will supply the books being taught in class.
Applicants must pass a background check before being chosen as a reading volunteer.
