ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Rockford Police are warning families about scammers who are pretending to be from the Rockford Police Department and demanding money for outstanding warrants.

The Rockford Police Department says it does not take payments of any kind over the phone and that we should not give financial information to anyone saying they are with the Rockford Police Department.

Anyone who receives a phone call from someone claiming to be with the Rockford Police Department and asking for money over the phone is asked to note the name and phone number and report the call to the police non-emergency number at 815-966-2900.
