ROCKFORD, Ill (WIFR) – The Rockford Police Department announced dates for its Fall 2017 Citizens Police Academy. The academy will be held every Tuesday from 6:00pm – 8:30pm and will run from September 5 – November 14, 2017 at the Rockford Police Department District Station 2 located at 1410 Broadway.
Graduation will also be held on the last day, November 14, 2017.
The Citizens Police Academy’s mission is to build cooperative relationships between the citizens and the police through training and education. The academy produces a network of informed citizens who can return to their neighborhoods to encourage others and to partner with police to reduce crime in Rockford.
Patrol operations, 911 center operations, community policing, criminal law, and city ordinances are some of the session the curriculum includes. Citizens must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
Since the academy’s inception in 2009, more than 200 citizens have been trained by the Rockford Police Department which now includes 32 active police volunteers.
