UPDATE: Crews in Rockford respond to early morning house fire

UPDATE: ROCKFORD, Ill (WIFR) -- More than 20 firefighters respond to a house fire in the 2700 block of Arthur Avenue.

Once it was determined to be vacant, the Rockford fire department says it used a defensive mode of operations to let the fire burn out.

The structure is a total loss and will be destroyed today. No one was hurt.

ROCKFORD, Ill (WIFR) -- A vacant house goes up in flames early this morning on the city's west side.

Firefighters responded just before 4:00 am to the house at 916 Horace Avenue. The house is condemned.

Initial reports indicated the structure was fully involved and flames were extending into nearby trees. Electrical wires also went down in the area.

Rockford fire is still on scene assessing the damage.
