Rockford, Ill. (WIFR) -- Families living on the west side are feeling hopeful as new development comes to an area that been empty for the last three decades.

As phase two of the west state street road reconstruction project is underway a new business opens its doors. Davita Kidney Care located at the intersection of West State and Springfield Avenue opened its doors this Monday. Developer Sunil Puri says he's making a long term investment in the west side of Rockford.

Puri announced today that First Midwest Group plans to develop either two additional buildings or one large building on the remaining one and a half acres of land on the property.

Puri says we can expect to see the new buildings within the next couple of years. The city is moving into phase two of the west state street reconstruction.
