JANESVILLE, Wis. (WIFR) -- Janesville Police say social media reports about a puppy being thrown into the Rock River are not true.
Investigators say they had seen reports of a person throwing the dog off a bridge into the Rock River. They say the incident was never originally reported to police, but an officer was given the name of the person who turned the dog into the Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin.
Investigators say after that person and several other people were interviewed, police learned the story had been fabricated to avoid paying a fee to the humane society to surrender the dog.
Janesville Police say there will be no criminal charges because no fals statements were made to officers.
