Poor forecast in Rockford leads to Puma Cup cancellation

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - The damp and dreary weather this weekend is leading to the cancellation of a soccer tournament expected to bring more than 500 teams to Rockford.

Coupled with last weekend's tournament, the 19th annual Puma Champions Cup was expected to bring in nearly $2 million to Rockford. The Rockford Area Convention and Visitors Bureau says 30,000 people from across the Midwest and Canada were expected to make the trip to the Forest City.

Frank Mateus, Rockford Raptors FC Executive Director, who hosted the tournament, said cold winter-like temperatures led to the cancellation.
