Police investigate after a 3 vehicle accident at the intersection of Auburn & Kilburn

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Police are investigating an accident involving three vehicles at the intersection of Auburn Street and Kilburn Avenue, which happened around 8:15 p.m. on Sunday.

Police say they were trying to pull over a suspect near Auburn and Central for driving without headlights in the middle of the road, thinking it was a possible DUI. They say the driver then sped up trying to flee from them, where he crashed into a van at the intersection. The driver then tried to flee from his vehicle on foot, but police say they caught him.

Officials say there were two passengers in the van that was hit, who were sent to the hospital with minor injuries.

Authorities say a third car was involved in the crash, but the people in that car pulled over and fled the scene on foot before police arrived.

Police say the suspect driver is in custody and charges are pending.
