Pearl City American Legion providing meals, supplies to neighbors impacted by floods

PEARL CITY, Ill. (WIFR) -- The American Legion in Pearl City is offering three meals a day and acting as a donation center where community members can go to get non-perishable food items, cleaning supplies and disaster kits.

The Pearl City American Legion tells me they open their doors to anyone who needs food. They're even going door-to-door as they understand many people are still in the process of cleaning up their homes and may not have the time to stop and eat a meal. A lot of the food and cleaning supplies have been donated by members of surrounding communities.

"Shannon, Lanark, Stockton, everyone's calling and people have been sending monetaries, bringing toilet supplies, bringing cleaning supplies, we've been just blessed with everything," says Building Manager for Pearl City American Legion Roger Jacobs.

Rogers says the Legion is still in need of bleach and money to help people buy plywood and to help replace appliances that may have been destroyed.

People can send items or monetary donations to:

Rogers also says there's an account set up at the State Bank of Pearl City.
