Paul Ryan visits Janesville's Dollar General facility

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- U.S. Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan visited his hometown of Janesville Saturday. He celebrated the opening of a new Dollar General Distribution Facility that is bringing hundreds of jobs to the area.

Nearly 1,000 visitors toured the facility where employees had the chance to show their families around. Representatives from the company as well as House Speaker Paul Ryan spoke about the facility and its impact.

"This is part of our plan here in Rock County, in Janesville-Beloit area to bring jobs. Good, family-sustaining jobs right here," said Ryan.

The Janesville location is Dollar General's largest distribution facility in the country. It has created over 500 jobs for the area.

"It's a nice place. People should, if they want to work, they should come and apply and get in. It's really good. I plan on being here awhile and it's a good place," said Dollar General employee, David Craine.

House Speaker Paul Ryan also said that distribution center jobs like this will bring people to the southern-Wisconsin region. Dollar General also hopes Ryan's visit will attract people to the area.

"It is just another huge accomplishment for us. Just knowing the success that we've already had and the success that he has had in his career. For him to come back home and for this to be a part of his hometown is just fantastic for us," said director of the Janesville facility, Matt Lucas.

In addition to the 500 new jobs, Dollar General is already looking to increase that number within the next couple of years.
