Driver killed in collision identified

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- The Winnebago County Coroner releases the name of the truck driver killed in a collision early Monday morning.

The coroner says 42-year-old John McConkey of Ashton died at the scene after his Ford F250 crashed into an exit ramp sign post near North 2nd Street and Y Boulevard.

Investigators say McConkey's truck lost control and struck the sign on the driver's side just before 7 a.m. The area was closed down for several hours as crews cleaned up the scene, it has since been reopened.


ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- One person is dead following a crash Monday on Highway 251 near Y Boulevard.

Investigators tell 23 News that just before 7 a.m., the driver lost control of a truck, swerved off the road and crashed into an exit ramp sign.

Only one person was inside the vehicle; the name of the individual has not been released.

Northbound lanes on Illinois Route 251 were closed for a few hours as the accident was investigated.
