Update: Investigators release details on CherryVale Mall shooting suspect

UPDATE: ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- The Winnebago County Sheriff's Office releases new details about the deadly shooting of a man in late February near CherryVale Mall.

A photo, believed to be of the car the suspect was driving, was given to the media on Monday.

Detectives are looking for a gold or tan GMC Yukon that was involved in the deadly shooting of 31-year-old Ricky Smith from DeKalb.

Anyone with information on the vehicle or the shooting are asked to call the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office.

UPDATE: ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - The Winnebago County Coroner's Office says 31-year-old Ricky Smith's preliminary cause of death is a gunshot wound.

Toxicology results will be available in three weeks.

CHERRY VALLEY, Ill (WIFR) -- Winnebago County Coroner Bill Hintz identified the victim from the shooting at CherryVale Mall Friday evening as 31-year-old Ricky Smith, of DeKalb. Hintz says Smith was located in a vehicle when he was shot.

CHERRY VALLEY, Ill (WIFR) -- A 23 News crew is on the scene of a shooting at CherryVale Mall that left one person dead.

The victim is believed to be between the ages of 25 and 30 years old.

Winnebago County Sheriff Gary Caruana says a call of shots fired came in around 4:15 p.m. today. While many details aren't known at this time, Caruana believes at least one car was involved. The shooting happened near the Macy's entrance on the south side of the mall.
